The Beijing to Guilin bullet train is one of the most comfortable ways to travel from China’s imperial capital to the dramatic karst landscapes of southern Guangxi. The fastest direct daytime trains complete the roughly 2,100-kilometer journey in about eight hours, departing from Beijing West Railway Station and arriving at either Guilin North Railway Station or downtown Guilin Railway Station.
For travelers who prefer easier luggage handling, more spacious seating and a city-to-city journey without airport check-in, high-speed rail is an excellent option. However, direct departures are limited, and popular seats can sell out quickly during Chinese public holidays, summer vacation and the autumn travel season.
Travelers planning a longer China itinerary can explore our Beijing tours and Guilin tours for ideas combining historical landmarks, local food and natural scenery.

Beijing to Guilin Train Overview
Direct G-series trains are the fastest daytime services between the two cities. They operate on China’s high-speed rail network and usually take around eight hours. A limited overnight D-train may also operate on selected dates, while conventional sleeper trains take considerably longer.
| Item | Practical Information |
|---|---|
| Departure station | Beijing West Railway Station |
| Arrival stations | Guilin North Railway Station or Guilin Railway Station |
| Fastest journey | Approximately 7 hours 58 minutes |
| Travel distance | Approximately 2,100 km |
| Daytime direct trains | Normally two G-series departures |
| Available seat classes | Second class, first class and business class |
| Best for | Couples, families, senior travelers and passengers avoiding airport stress |
The Beijing to Guilin high speed train is particularly suitable for travelers taking a longer China vacation. You avoid airport baggage collection and arrive closer to central Guilin, but the journey still uses most of a sightseeing day.
For a short six-day China trip, flying may preserve more sightseeing time. For a ten-day or two-week itinerary, the train often provides a calmer and more enjoyable travel experience.
A conventional Beijing to Guilin train may have lower ticket prices, but the journey can take between approximately 19 and 28 hours. Unless you specifically want a sleeper-train experience, the direct high-speed service is usually the more practical choice.
Train Times and Ticket Fares
The following timetable can be used as a planning reference. Railway schedules, stopping patterns and ticket prices may change, so travelers should confirm the exact departure when tickets become available.
| Train | Departure | Arrival | Duration | Arrival Station |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G309 | 09:00 | 16:58 | 7 hours 58 minutes | Guilin North Railway Station |
| G311 | 11:05 | 19:03 | 7 hours 58 minutes | Guilin Railway Station |
| D919 | 20:27 | 08:00 the next day | Approximately 11 hours 33 minutes | Guilin North Railway Station |
The overnight D-service may operate only on selected dates. Travelers building a fixed itinerary should normally use the daytime G-trains as the more dependable planning option.
Beijing to Guilin High-Speed Train Prices
| Seat Class | Reference One-Way Fare | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Second class | CNY 949–952 | Travelers looking for the best overall value |
| First class | CNY 1,518–1,522 | Couples, families and senior travelers wanting extra space |
| Business class | CNY 2,764–2,973 | Travelers prioritizing maximum comfort and privacy |
Second class has a 3+2 seating layout and offers the best value for most passengers. The seats are comfortable, although an eight-hour journey can feel long if you are assigned the middle seat.
First class uses a 2+2 layout, providing wider seats, more legroom and a quieter environment. For many of our private-tour guests, first class is the most sensible upgrade for this route, especially when traveling with parents or children.
Business class offers reclining seats, greater privacy and a premium waiting and boarding experience at some stations. However, it can cost around three times the second-class fare. For many travelers, upgrading hotels or arranging a private Guilin transfer provides more value than purchasing business-class tickets.
When comparing high-speed rail with flying, do not look only at the ticket price. A discounted flight may occasionally be cheaper, but you must also consider airport transfers, early check-in, baggage procedures and the journey from Guilin Liangjiang International Airport to your hotel.

Departure and Arrival Stations
Beijing West Railway Station
Direct high-speed trains to Guilin depart from Beijing West Railway Station. It is one of the largest railway stations in Beijing and can feel confusing for first-time international visitors.
The station is connected to Beijing Metro Lines 7 and 9. The subway is affordable and predictable when your hotel is close to a convenient metro line and you are traveling with light luggage. Our Beijing metro guide explains ticket payment, transfers and practical navigation tips.
Travelers carrying several suitcases, traveling with children or accompanying older relatives may prefer a private car with a driver. A driver can collect you from your hotel, help with luggage and take you to the correct station entrance.
You can also book a ride using DiDi in China. However, Beijing West has several entrances and vehicle areas, so check the drop-off location carefully.
We recommend arriving at the station approximately 60 to 75 minutes before departure. Allow additional time during public holidays because security checks, passport verification and station corridors can be crowded.
A common mistake is calculating only the hotel-to-station driving time. Getting out of the vehicle is not the same as reaching the boarding gate. Large railway stations require time for security screening, finding the waiting hall and walking to the platform.

Guilin North Railway Station
G309 normally arrives at Guilin North Railway Station. The station is north of downtown Guilin and serves many long-distance high-speed trains.
Guilin does not currently have a metro system. Travelers can continue by public bus, taxi, DiDi or a pre-arranged private vehicle.
City buses are the least expensive option, but they can be inconvenient with large luggage after an eight-hour journey. DiDi is easier when you already have mobile data, app access and a working payment method.
A private pickup is particularly valuable when traveling directly to Yangshuo, the Longji Rice Terraces or a countryside hotel. The driver can meet you at the correct station exit and take you directly to your accommodation.

Guilin Railway Station
G311 arrives at Guilin Railway Station on Zhongshan South Road. This station is closer to downtown hotels, Elephant Trunk Hill and the Two Rivers and Four Lakes scenic area.
It is important to distinguish Guilin Railway Station from Guilin North and Guilin West. Always use the full station name when arranging a hotel pickup. Writing only “Guilin Station” may cause the driver to wait at the wrong location.
Route and Seat Selection
The daytime route crosses a large section of central China. Depending on the service, major stops may include Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha and Yongzhou.
The landscape changes gradually during the journey. Beijing’s urban areas give way to the North China Plain, followed by farmland, rivers and major cities in central China. As the train enters southern Hunan and Guangxi, the scenery becomes greener and increasingly mountainous.
Do not expect dramatic mountain views throughout the entire trip. Much of the journey passes through agricultural areas, tunnels and modern urban districts. However, watching the climate, vegetation and architecture change from northern to southern China is part of the experience.
Passengers who want a window should choose an A or F seat. In second class, D and F are on the two-seat side, which is often more convenient for couples.
Bring water, snacks, a power bank and downloaded entertainment. Food trolleys and simple meals are normally available, and hot water can usually be found inside the carriage. Mobile signals may become unstable in tunnels, so download important documents before boarding.

Beijing and Guilin Travel Tips
What to Do in Beijing
First-time visitors should allow at least three full sightseeing days in Beijing. A balanced itinerary can include the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, a traditional hutong neighborhood and one full day at the Great Wall.
For families and senior travelers, avoid scheduling a physically demanding Great Wall excursion immediately before an early train. The walking, packing and traffic can make the following travel day unnecessarily tiring.
Popular local foods include Peking duck, copper-pot mutton hotpot, zhajiang noodles and traditional Beijing breakfast dishes. More sightseeing and food ideas are available in our Beijing travel guide.

What to Do in Guilin
Guilin is best combined with Yangshuo, and travelers with additional time can also include the Longji Rice Terraces. Classic experiences include a Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo, bamboo rafting, Xianggong Hill, the Yulong River countryside and Reed Flute Cave.
Local dishes worth trying include Guilin rice noodles, Yangshuo beer fish, stuffed river snails and bamboo-tube rice. Our guide to the best things to do in Guilin includes more attractions and local experiences.

A frequent planning mistake is arriving on G311 at around 19:00 and attempting to continue to Yangshuo, have dinner and attend an evening performance on the same night. Although this may be technically possible, it creates an unnecessarily rushed arrival.
A more comfortable choice is staying in downtown Guilin for one night or arranging a direct private transfer to Yangshuo and keeping the evening free.

Recommended Beijing and Guilin Itinerary
Days 1–4: Explore Beijing
Visit Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, the Temple of Heaven, Mutianyu Great Wall, the Summer Palace and one traditional hutong area. Leave at least one evening free so the trip does not feel like a sightseeing checklist.
Day 5: Beijing to Guilin by High-Speed Train
Take G309 when you prefer the earliest possible arrival. After reaching Guilin North, a private driver can meet you at the station and transfer you to a downtown hotel. You will still have time for Guilin rice noodles and an evening walk around the lakes.
G311 allows a slower morning in Beijing but arrives after 19:00, leaving very little useful sightseeing time in Guilin.
Day 6: Guilin to Yangshuo
Take a Li River cruise or combine Xianggong Hill with a quieter bamboo-rafting experience. Continue to Yangshuo and stay either near West Street or in the peaceful Yulong River countryside.
Day 7: Yangshuo Countryside
Explore village roads by bicycle, electric bike, sidecar or private vehicle. Add a cave, a local lunch and an evening performance according to your preferred pace.
Day 8: Longji Rice Terraces or Departure
Add the Longji Rice Terraces when you enjoy mountain scenery, walking and minority culture. Otherwise, return to Guilin for an onward high-speed train or domestic flight.
